Keeping busy at Ben's Centre
Our project worker team have been busy organising a packed plan of activities for visitors over the last few months. We have already shared some of the fun that clients have had in History Club , visiting the emergency services museum, and through the Move More group going on walks around Sheffield. In 2022 we have expanded this programme to include more activities!
A full programme of things to do during the day is beneficial for our clients because it gets them out of the house or away from the streets, and away from temptations such as alcohol or substances. It also gives them an opportunity to build skills, try new hobbies and socialise. Our hope is to go to places that are accessible enough for clients to visit in their own time should they wish to.
The Woodland group has been running in partnership with Manor Castle Development Trust. We have hired a minibus to take clients to Manor every Wednesday for six weeks to learn woodland and survival skills. This is a great opportunity for clients to get out in the fresh air, somewhere new, do some physical activity and to learn some new skills. The first group to go said that it was great and came back buzzing with energy!
Our IT guru Martin has been running 1-1 IT sessions at the Day Centre to help clients improve their computer literacy and assist with any device technical help.
Finally, the Textiles group has been running for several weeks now with clients learning to sew in order to repair clothes and create their own tote bags from loose fabric. They have been using sewing machines to create the bags and we have seen some great creations. Clients have been very proud of what they have created and we hope we have passed on skills for clients to repair their own clothes.
