Fareshare deliveries

Every week, Ben’s Centre are grateful to receive a Fareshare delivery. Fareshare is a national charity with a local franchise here in Yorkshire. They gather waste quality, in date food from supermarkets and supply chains and redistribute it to organisations, communities and charities that need it, reducing food waste and solving hunger issues. 2,700 tonnes of food is wasted in Yorkshire alone a year. This is unsustainable and unfair on those experiencing food poverty.

Fareshare estimates that receiving food in this way saves its members nearly £8000 a year from food costs. For Ben’s this is £8000 that can make a big difference and be spent on improving services for our clients and helping more vulnerable people on the streets. We provide a hot meal, often with several options including to cater for different diets, and a light breakfast, five days a week to a varying number of clients. Being able to create nutrient rich healthy and filling meals to support our clients when the day is over is so important to our service.

Our chef Rob has worked some magic with our Fareshare deliveries, creating delicious soups, puddings, pastas and more with whatever comes through the door… He didn’t even let the prospect of cracking 40 coconuts open put him off creating something delicious! Stay tuned on our blog and social media channels for more content about the meals we have here at Ben’s.
